California differences
I just found out that my project 1991 forerunner was originally a california car. There is an emissions sticker under the hood that says it complies with all federal AND california restrictions. If there where any what where the differences between the california cars and the 49 states cars? Im replacing my engine and need to know if there's any california specific things i will need to change like the ecu.

"forerunner" hehe
I assume you have a 22R-EC
The engine mechanical components are the same, but the emission components are different. You can swap out the block, head, timing stuff, exhaust, trans, etc, all while keeping the Cali emissions sensors and ECU.
Or, just do a 3.4 swap... that's what I did

I have a 3.0 that the previous owner pulled due to engine failure and never replaced. I'm just gonna throw in a 3.0 as i'm not going to be driving it and the person who will won't be needing the extra power otherwise i would just do the 3.4 swap. It stock had a 91 3.0 and I want to put in a 94 3.0 as a local guy offered me a steal of a deal on one. Also I keep saying it forerunner and not 4runner because i've been working on a Honda Foreman all day and the words are bleeding together in my head lol.
