Thinking about buying an 88 4runner with a 22re. The current owner has removed everything under the hood for the A\C system. Everything inside is still there. I live in Phoenix and incase you haven't heard, it can get a bit warm here. If I wanted to reinstall the A/C system, the owner said I would need to get a condenser, compressor, reciever dryer, and the two hoses. Having little experience with A/C systems, how difficult would it be to reinstall the system. Is this something that mostly bolts back into place or do you need specific knowledge of A/C systems to install it.

It pretty much all bolts back into place. You might want to have a professional fill the coolant though. On that note if you wish to convert to r134a I have a compressor in great condition for sale.

Sure, all the parts will bolt back in--whether it will function properly is another question. In short, all the seals will need to be replaced, maybe a new expansion valve, and certainly all the stuff the seller listed will need to be replaced. The system needs to have a vacuum pulled on it to check for leaks before you recharge with new coolant. The seller is making it sound simple so you will buy the truck.

If you don't know anything about AC it will be a real pain to make it work. I used Arizona Mobile Air, 3601 West Clarendon, PHX. Phone 602-233-0090 to replace my entire system in my 84 4Runner. They are very honest and won't rip you off. They are great about giving advice--give them a call and explain what you want to do--they will tell you what is involved.

The above advice by ernest t bass to "buy another truck" might be a better idea! Check out what the cost is---it ain't cheap.

Sure, you see yahoos driving around the PHX area with all the windows open when it is 115 degrees but for me AC is a must have. If it's important to you, then find a truck with AC that is in good working order (cold air!).
