Bucket Seats Installed! +Pics!

Ventured over to the local (relatively) dismantling yard for a spare wheel since I lifted and put bigger tires on my truck. While wandering around my girlfriend spotted an '87 Celica GT with some sweet buckets. I got 'em for $25 each!

Here they are

Original Bench

Removed and Drilling new holes. The front 2 matched up but the 2 rear mounts on the sliders were an inch and a half shorter

Because the Celica buckets are so low, I opted to space em up with a 2x4 painted BLACK!

They are done! look at the airfilter in the net on the back of my seat!

All the holes in the cab are plugged and in Southern California the weather makes it difficult to rot . If it does rot it will take 30 minutes for me to replace both sides

They look great! But...

Just playing devils advocate here. How well do you think those 2x4's will hold up in the event of an accident? or is it just a type of spacer? I cant really see.

the seats look good, makes me wanna hit the boneyard this weekend to replace the PITA montero seats I put in mine.
x3 on the 2x4. I would recommend that you get some steel stock..1.5"x2" x.0.375" and use grade 5 or grade 8 hardware with some big fender washers on the bottom side.

if you do any kind of wheeling or just driving and take a good bump that 2x4 stands a good chance of splitting.

Looks good but instead of the 2x4 why not get some Hockey pucks to use for spacers? With long bolts they'll give you a cleaner look and you'll be able to use the under seat area for storage more easily than you can now.

IK "hockey pucks" what can I say? we use them everywhere... It's a Canadian thing...

I did a similar setup in my 88, I got the arm rest / console and 2 buckets out of a 92 4runner, bolted them in and installed the console, it looks 100% stock like it came that way, well unless you look at the back of the console where the rear seat heat controls are

The 2x4's are held in by longer bolts and some large washers. I appreciate everyone's input on it. I will continue running the 2x4 setup and decide if I should upgrade at a later time.

I hope you added some steel under the body to provide adequate support in the event of an accident. Washers shouldn't be used to provide support.

From what I saw the factory position is just an unreinforced hole in the floor with welded in place nuts. If he used fender washers he should be fine.

Sweet. Looks like mine. I put in some 87' Starion seats a few months back. I love them for drifting. That stock bench seat just doesn't do much! Lol
