Broken timing Belt?

Whats the easiest way to check to see if it broke?

Would the distributer still turn when cranking if it was?

'91 4Runner 3.0l

Thanks

Unbolt the plastic cover on the top and peek in there with a light.
It should be pretty obvious after that.

If it's broken the distributor won't turn, because your camshafts won't be turning. Pop the distributor cap off and check, easier than pulling the timing cover.
