broken tab on e-brake handle... replacable?

Ok, so today as I am leaving the house for work, i let off the e-brake, and i hear a slight CRUNCH. didnt think much of it until i noticed the brake light was still on. so i pulled over, checked the brake and clutch fluid, fine. so i was messing with the handle, seems to be workin ok. so i jsut said screw it sicne i was running late. i talked to my mechanic about it, and he said i wanted to check for a little white 'nipple' on the bottom of the handle. so i did, and low and behold, theres a little bar on the handle that i guess compresses the 'nipple' to turn off the light. i pushed in on it, and it went off. turns out that bar broke. now my question is this: am i gonna need to buy a whole new e-brake assembly and install it for that, or can i just salvage the piece? my mechanic says its a one piece thing, but i dont know. ive tried supergluing it, but doesnt hold. i currently have the light disconnected from the e-brake handle so i dont have a red light glaring up at me. any help would be appreciated.

Its just a switch. Its removable (very very easy) and replaceable. Talk to your local dealer, im sure they can get it.

Btw i wouldn't suggest a local parts house, they will likely get you the brake light switch under the brake pedal. And thats not the one you need.

You are talking about the metal peg that pushes onto the switch?

It is a press fit into the shaft of the handle. I have changed it before. We had a parts truck, use a punch to tap one out, tap the replacement back in.

FWIW, the new part # is 46114-20010 Pin, parking brake plunger.

do a search for my e-brake thread! I broke mine, and was told that you can tap the handle hole, and put in a bolt that'll hit the light switch...or you can just ducktape the swtch so the light doesen't come on.

Here are the details to finish off MMA Alex's post above.

My parking brake switch pin was broken when I bought my '93 4Runner. I punched out the broken pin from the parking brake handle shaft (this is easy to do with a hammer and punch when it is removed from the truck), tapped the hole to M6 x 1 (the hole size is perfect to do this), and installed a M6 x 1 (x 30mm, I think) bolt with blue loctite (after the handle is re-installed in the vehicle). It has worked perfectly since I did it 7 months ago.
