Broke wheel stud

So my He-Man strength screwed me again. I broke a stud on my rear axle. I know I have to pull the axle, but I am unsure of the process. I thought it was like a Ford 9", but after reading it sounds like the backing plates have to come off. Can someone give me a rundown of the simpliest way to pull the axle.

just take off the brake drum and pop the stud off. No reason to remove the whole axle or the backing plate.

You may have to remove the brake components.

x2.

And if you do have to remove the axle shaft for whatever reason, just unbolt the 4 backing plate bolts and it will slide right out (after you disconect the brake of course).

Believe it or not but my dealer replaced a wheel stud on my tacoma for only $19. Wasn't worth it for me to even mess with it.

That would be great if I didn't have to remove the axle. How do you replace the stud? I thought you had to have them pressed in.
