Breaking in front gears??

Regeared the pig front and rear, found all kinds of info for the rear but nothing for the front. I'd like to break the front end in but know damn good and well not to drive with the front end locked on the street. So can I run for a hundred miles or so with the hubs locked and then t-case still in 2wd and the a hundred or so with the hubs unlocked and the t-case in 4-hi and still get the break in for both ends of the ring gear face?

I just had my 89 4Runner regeared and that is exactly what they told me to do. I had some 4.88 Nitro Gears put. I just finished the first hundred with the hubs locked, this weekend I'm hoping to have time to do another hundred or so with then hubs unlocked and the t-case in 4hi.

They suggested I keep it under 45mph while doing all this too - besides, it handles like poop above 45 with the hubs locked.

Chase at ECGS told me "since they're normally not used at high speed for a long time they don't need to be broken in. Just go wheel it."
I did. Less than 24 hours after installing my 5.29's I was on one of the hardest trail in Arizona.

A year later when I had the diff out, the gears looked fine.

Moral of the story, don't waste your time trying to break them in. You'll be fine.

Thanks Scuba. With that information in hand I'll be wheeling next week, I only have about another 50 miles to go before the rear is broken in.
