Body Lift.

Well, this week I ordered my hi-lift jack(already have one in my Jeep, but I like to have one for each truck).

Which means next up is lockers, 5.29's 33's and a lift before I take her out. (I already started mocking up where I'll be welding up the armor I've made up).

So, my query is this; How much of a body lift it too much? I've seen kits for 1, 2, and 3 inches. Ideally I want to go with 3. Simply for the fact that eventually I'd like to SAS her and don't want to have to go ahead and find longer leafs or blocks for her. But still want to run 33's till then.. Yea I know, I'll have to re-gear the straight axle too, but parts are hard in coming so far. So is money.

3 inch sounds, again, ideal...But I also don't want the body flying off either thanks to weaker mounts, if thats a possibility. But I doubt 1 would be enough to clear the tires well enough. and why buy 2 if 3 is just as strong.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a product of web wheelers... as long as you tighten your hardware down it will be just fine.

I think the problems with a 3" body lift is more stuff has to be moved/relocated, but my biggest concern would be the look of a 3" body lift compared to a 1" or a 2". I wouldn't go more than a 2" because I hate the looks of body lifts. I have to keep a hitch on my runner and a 3" BL with a hitch mounted to the frame looks like butthole IMO.

That I do agree with. It's just some people think a body lift is going to make their rigs fall apart. It can be a pain because of the shifter lengtheners I do agree. What really pissed me off about my 2" though was the P.A. supplied steering shaft extension didn't fit. And I have built steps that hide the frame. So it should be decided on a case by case basis it would seem.

Anyway, back to the original poster, I say get it if you don't mind some of the concerns stated, but as long as you or someone competent installs the lift it will not make your truck into a weaker one.

My steering adapter didnt fit where PA told me it would. Worked by the gearbox though... My gearbox is leaking slightly now 1.5 years later.

I run 3" and am happy

i am happy with my 3" body lift. I clear 35's with no rubbing, but my torsion bars are pretty cranked. i have BJ spacers, just haven't put them in yet bc I can't get the nuts off the top of my shocks. i don't know if it was related to the body lift, but right after I did mine my truck cought on fire sitting parked at work.

I bet some lines got streched and maybe grounded out. My positive cable needed to be re-routed after the bl but it fit.

So far Im aware Ill have to make adjustments to the radiator, the fuel filler, bat straps and grounds, front bumper, ps lines, steering. But all the sites i looked at said no mods on the shifters would be needed. maybe the lije o the slave cylnder on the clutch side. anyone have probs with that?

the clutch line, the brake line to the tee to the right front brake/lspv, the line to the rear brake portion of the lspv, the parking (e) brake cable (may need adjusting)... all need to be considered too

If you don't want it to jacked up I'd go with a 1 or 2" body lift and a 4" IFS lift, or a SAS with 4" lift.

What?

I had to extend my shifters, simply because it looked retarded and was too low. Also had to bent it slightly to clear.

Didnt have to extend my PS lines or anything. Or fuel filler neck. Just used all the drop brackets (except for two) that came in the kit.

no brake/clutch lines had to be touched either.

If you don't want it to sit tall lift it six inches? GREAT IDEA!

You can clear 35's @ Stock Height with fender cutting, and firewall tubbing, easy to do if you have a welder, and she sits low... I'd do a 2" Lift and 33's, some tubbing, and cuttin..

My 3" was easy to put on and I was really glad I had it when it came time to pull my motor out. Lots of room under there now. Also with a body lift you can do a drivetrain lift fairly easily with lifted motor mounts from 4crawler and a lifted budbuilt skid plate. That would almost flatbelly your yota and that would be super cool. I haven't done it bc i would need to get a new driveshaft to replace my two piece.

Installed the 3" body lift. Couple little snags but nothing major. Very happy with it, especially today in the deeper streams where we took her for her maiden run.
