Best oil high mileage

Have a 93 sr5 with 3vze 3.0 6cylinder. Got it 2 months ago. Garage kept one owner. Want to take good care. Runs great but has 226,000 miles. What would be the best oil to use and filter.

I'm a big fan of Mobil products. Not the cheapest or the most expensive. On the whole if it's "high milage" it's usually formulated for high milage motors. Many oils are made from very few companies so most are the same manufacturer. At least in Canada.

I just bought my 93 pickup and have to make an oil choice soon. Previous owner claims to have used 10w40 4 quarts with one quart of Lucas. Maybe I should switch to a high mileage? Or should I keep up his use of Lucas? It's got 182,000 on 3vze 3.0.

Welcome to Yotatech!

This topic has been covered in many other threads (just search) but I would just stick to a name brand conventional oil or high mileage oil (such as Mobil, Castrol, Valvoline, etc.) in the correct weight and an OEM Toyota oil filter from the dealership as they have great filtering media and anti-drain back valves.

Many threads that will come up in a search will be about the 22r-e engine but most of the info should apply to your 3.0 3VZE.

Here is a google Search: Best oil and Filter.

I would not personally use a synthetic oil unless synthetic oil has been used for most of the engine's life.

As far as the Lucas oil treatment, I do not use it and do not see a need to (at least on a maintained engine).

If you stick to this and keep up regular oil changes, and make sure the oil level is checked often, you should be fine.

Others here have different opinions, but this is just what I do.

Standard 10w-40, whatever brand is on sale with a new filter (every other time) works well, serviced at 4000 miles. Regular maintenance is all you need.
