Bedlining the interior - Wires everywhere?!

Hey folks,

Just curious, Looking at ripping out the carpet from my 4runner and putting down some herculiner...

Ran into a snag though - What to do with all the bundles of wire that toyota had elected to run throughout the truck... Got some running under the drivers seat, down the edges of the door sills, and all those other ones I haven't found yet

First thought was to leave them in place, add some of the corrugated wire protectors around them and liner those into place. Then I noticed all the damn connectors...

Anyone come up with a simple solution?

Andy

don't herculine over them, if you ever need to get into the wiring it will make things fun. use some bungee cords to hold them off the floor. If you want to cover them after the lining is done . . . maybe cut some plastic conduit or pcv pipe in half to put over the wiring?

yeah the flexible black plastic tubing is what im going to use whn i do mine..but i only have like...3 or 4 wires..on the passenger side by the door..PO ran the rest of them under the truck...so for now thats how its going to stay..just bungee them out of the way until the herculiner is dry..then just lay them back down as if the herculiner wasnt there...maybe zip tie them together...idk..take your pic

Damn ive been wanting to do this for a while now. Didnt realize there was all those wires. Im thinking maybe make covers for them that are removeable so that the wires are hidden. maybe with some thin guage sheet or something.

Subscribing. Only thing has stopped me from Herculining the cab in my 4Runner are the damn wires...

Anyways, in the 2nd Gen 4Runner they run inside a sort of plastic channels...

I did this to my 1990 4Runner. I just left the wires how they were. I used some of the corrugated tube to cover them a bit, but there's just a couple under the front seats. The ones that run by the doors kinda sit in the plastic trim.

The biggest PITA in doing this is getting the gooey insulation/sound deadener up. I wound up getting dry ice and getting that crap good and cold then beating on it with a hammer. Most of it came up like that and the rest will sorta dissolve with Xylene.

lining

You could do like I did and remove the wires. There isn't that many wires, and remove them from inside and run them under the floor. I had to drill and use a rubber grommet for the seat belt, speaker and something else that was running to the rear of the extended cab. Only took a couple of hours taking my time and some bondo to smooth out the floor curves to make it look nice. But I took it and had it Rhino lined at a buddy's shop.

i came across this company a couple days ago that sold vinyl inserts for the 3rd gen to get rid of the carpets. might want to just do that instead of hurculing everything... i heard that stuff gets nasty when you get it on your hootus

It's louder. I don't mind it so much, but my wife complains a bit about it. I got some rubber floor mats that help out a bit but a lot of the sound comes from the cargo area. I'll see about getting some pics tomorrow for y'all.

I would simply cut some small PVC (maybe 1/2 inch) pipe in half and and liner over it.....

Sorry guys, I've been real busy with work, but I got a promotion, so I'm happy.

I went out and took some pix of the front and rear seat floorboards. I just realized that I never got around to putting the wire conduit around the wires.

And yes, I am a horrible photographer so they're outta focus!

I did a bad job on the taping before I put down the Herculiner. If you're going to do this, mark out where the boundries of the plastic are and make sure you get all that covered or else it'll look kinda crappy, see above.

I really love the beadliner in the truck cause I don't like to wash or vacuum my truck and it's nice to take it to the car wash and wash the inside and outside at the same time People WILL stare when you do this but I'm just classy like that.
