From bad to worse...
So when I bought the truck, I had it smogged. It failed. It had double the NOx PPM's it should have. Sooooo, I went home and found out my vacuum lines were all mixed up, some of which were connected to themselvs, and that my EGR valve was bad. I fixed all that, adjusted my timing and idle, and replaced my PCV valve.
I drove it around for over an hour before I took it to the smog station today, and when I got the results back, they were 2.5 times HIGHER than the last test. Not only did my NOx fail... everything else failed as well. HC, and CO.
What the hell did I do??? I successfully turned my 4runner into a gross polluter!

motor/truck info?
you said you toyed with the timing; did yoiu use a light, or go "by ear"?
if you didn't use a light, your problem may just lay there...
does the truck run fine?

Ok, now that I am taking a second look at the smog sheet, it looks like I did fine on everything but NOx. Granted they are worse than before, but I don't think should be too hard to fix.
And about the timing; I did borrow my friend's timing light, and set it to 5 BTDC, as well as adjusting the idle to about 750.
I'm taking the truck into a repair shop tomorrow to have them diagnose it. I just don't have enough time, and I need to get this thing legal ASAP.
