Backing plates...

Hi all
This is for a 92 Pickup 4WD V6.
The dust guards on the backing plates are totally thrashed and don't seem to be available as a separate unit. Was thinking about just getting new used backing plates but of course may be hard to find and cost some coin. Then thought about cutting dust guards off an old set from a junk yard etc. Any good ideas?
Thanks

actually, those dust gaurds are welded on if i am not mistaken, and so it would require a wee bit of welding to put them on your rig.
And secondly, I have just spent 2 weeks of my life hunting down backing plates in yards and to only find that they are sold as an entire unit with axle shaft, bearing, and all. Unless of course your talking about the dust shield for the fronts?

It-
Ack.
And I do mean the back ones. Given how often these things get bent up, you think Toyota would have made something more convenient...

you talking about front or rear?

You can get just a backing plate from a Toyota Dealership.

If you're that concerned with the rear brakes you might consider a disc conversion. By the time you're done replacing both backing plates you'll probably be at or above the cost of a disc conversion. =)

you have to unpress the axles to remove and replace backing plates. Most shops charge like $40 an axle. Might as well replace bearings and seals while you got them axles off and the brakes and get the drums turned =)

I say screw the backing plates and do disc! ... now damnit if these disc brakes would just show up already.. was suppost to be here last saturday , damn ups.

Drew
1)Rear
2)Yeah, I thought about the dealership ... its just that things are usually $$$ through them so wanted to check out other options
3)Thought about the conversion. Hadn't planned on it simply because since the fronts do most of the work, is there much point? Which disc kit are you panning to use?
