Ok so i've changed my opinion on getting a bumper mount CB antenna to a roof mount antenna. So what is your guys opinion on the best location on the roof to mount it. I have a sunroof so would right behind it be better? Pics from any of you guys would be lots of help. Thanks!

 

well mine is welded to the rear bumper i never could but it on the top cause mines a 87

 

halfway from the sunroof to the rear, centered left to right.

just mount anywhere on the roof. I would attach a "leash" to the antenna so if you go under low hanging trees or knock it off you wont lose/run over it/etc.....

well, I wasn't gonna say that but okay.
I was going to say, cut a round piece of stainless about 24" in diameter and use it to mount the antenna to the center of the shell, making sure the antenna itself is insulated from the stainless and solder or bolt the shield from the coax to it. It'll act as a ground plane and allow you to mount the antenna high.

 

most of the time a high centered ant will give optimal strength. i have a mag mount wilson 5000 on the roof my 3rd gen. it works very great. i went with the mag mount because i can easily remove it when i don't need it.

I brought up the possibility of co-phasing two 'glass whips in another thread. If done properly, this would work as well as one high mounted antenna (and possibly even better if the antennae and mount locations are chosen wisely).

The Wilson's are very good antennae. They also work well with a transceiver that has received the obligatory peak-and-tweak mods, something many 'glass antennae have a problem dealing with.

 

best "leash" would be made out of?????

 

make the leash out of non-conductive rope, etc. doesn't need to be much, just something you can grab and pull the antenna down with- shoestrings tied together, or whatever.
