Hmmm ... let's see ... where would you find a used solid axle ...

Junkyard?

Under an '85 or earlier truck or 4Runner?

New? Diamond Axle or Trail Gear ...

Seriously, if you have to ask this question, you don't NEED a SAS.

Do they always hide them under truck and 4Runners like that, why are they not under washing machines and old televisions? The malicious b*st*ards.

This is a big-boy mod, you're gonna have to work for it in order to do it right. Might have to call another junkyard than the one right behind your trailer park.

He's right, this mod is going to require like...15 bottles of JB weld.

BHard-On: maybe you could make and axle out of JB weld as well

I turned every stone and beat every bush to find mine. Granted this area is pretty remote not to mention on the coast (rust city.) 1/2 the fun of my SA build was the PROCESS of finding the axle. I met and meet a whole host of characters! For example, I was way out in southern Humboldt and I drove down this long dirt drive way. The closer I got to the guys house the more I could smell fresh pot! I get down there and the guy is waiting for me ( a total hippy guy dreads and beat to hell Carhartt overalls. He took me down to this field of old VW buses, Subarus and Toyotas and showed me an 85 with weeds growing through the floorboard. I looked underneat and the frame had literally rotted in half. I passed on the axle but I did stay for a beer and a few good stories.
After months of looking I finally found one from a totally cool guy Mikes Specialty Repair in Garberville/Redway (MSR) on Yotatech.

You know, you are right, hunting down the front axle is part of the fun. Cleaning it up once it's home is not!

There are no SAs to be found around here. Junked 4Rs are extremely rare in this area, especially early 1st gens.
