Anyone done the Jeep AW4 conversion on a Toyota? My research indicates a late 80's Jeep AW4 can be installed in place of the A340H POS by swapping bell housings, removing the transfer case from the AW4, installing an adapter plate from a supplier and then attaching a JEEP manual transfer case. Great, but what about all the electricals from Jeep to Toyota? And, can a Toyota transfer case be put behind the AW4? Thanks in advance for any experiences with this concept that you may share with the audience.

I know the AW4 is exactly the same as the auto that comes behind the 3.4l toyota's not sure if that helps you though. Being a former jeep owner i have to warn you that the aw4 puts out lots of heat, but then toyota's have an actual radiator as compared to the pos that you find in a cherokee.

I have never heard of this, I dont think its that easy, cause the torque converter and the flex plate may pose a problem. Also the computers, I know are different (and the transmission is electronically controlled if I remember correctly).

Why would you want heep parts in a toyota? Thats the real question, yeah the automatic isnt the best, but seriously you are going to swap out the drivetrain of one of the most reliable vehicles out there for a jeep part... doesnt really make sense to me.

Honestly, I didn't look at the date either.

But my buddy was asking about something along these lines. That way he can run a Toy reduction box with a Dana t-case behind it in his Jeep.

And everyone keeps mentioning Crappy Heep parts, if I'm not mistaken, the AW4 is basically the same be it in a Cherokee or a Tacoma, they are all built by AISIN.

Does anyone know anything about this topic?

 

Thats what i was told by a toyota mechanic, the trannys are the same as the aw4, he said you could swap them around if you wanted too. problably diffrent bellhousing and tailpiece needed to do so though.

why are people so concerned about dates over here?
