Hey guys,

I currently have an 91 yota, 3.slow V6 auto and my t-case won't engage into 4 wheel drive, high or low, not even when I hold the shifter down(auto hubs). First off does anybody have any ideas or suggestions to fixing that?

Secondly,
After figuring out the hours to just rip apart the T-case out of the tranny, its alot more work then just swapping the whole tranny, and I can get a manual tranny and clutch for fairly cheap off one of my buddies.
Has anyone done it?
Is there more to it then just swapping the tranny and setting up the cluthc and installing the manual computer?
Any problems with the 3.0auto engine to the 3.0 manual engine or are they the same?
Drive shaft lengths?

I have completed the swap. It is the best and most rewarding modification that I have done. It was fairly simple, provided that you have mechanical ability. The most complicated and involving part is the wiring. Essentially, all you must do is connect the neutral start wires together, or run them through a clutch switch. Connect the reverse lights. Finally, connect the ADD wiring. I just permanently locked my ADD. The crankhaft is machined for the pilot bearing. The auto is heafty to drop by yourself, and it is best to purchase a cheap tranny jack for the manual install. Chances are that you will have to switch the tranny-side flange of the driveshaft, as you will need a driveshaft from a manual truck and I can tell you that my flanges were different. I completed the swap in a weekend, but I did my homework first. I run 33" x 12.5" tires with 4.56 gearing and can hold 70+ mph. 4.88:1 would be optimum. I also noticed a 4mpg (in town) gain Good luck.

 

I did the swap on a 22RTE. And totally agree, it was great, and a hoot to do.

I've kindof McGyver''d my wiring for now. It works, but it's not a clean as I want in the end.

Go buy a new clutch though, not worth risking using an old one IMO. But be prepaired to spend more time than you think getting the pedal bracket and MC into place. I had to remove quite a few things from the engine bay to make enough room to fit a hole saw against the firewall.

 

I drilled from inside (cab) of my 4Runner with a long bit.

 

I have a question, my 96 s 10 has a 4L60E auto and i would like to swap it to a toyota 5 speed, can it be done and how?

 

buy a toyota.. and make sure its a 5 speed. yeah it can be done but thats a lot of work.
