Looks like you and your rig would have taken a beating on that run.

I'll throw in my .02.

it totally depends on the type of wheeling you do.

I had a LSD in my rear diff, and hated it. It was awesome on road, in the snow. Off road, it was just barely marginally better than open. Most of the time I couldn't tell it was there, which is a bad thing.

I found it to be particuarly lacking with a wheel in the air. My front suspension lifts wheels all the time. If you find yourself lifting wheels a lot, the LSD will do nothing.

However, if you driving in muddy, slick terrain, and need to turn both wheels, I imagine a LSD will do great.

As for CV's, I know auto lockers can play hell on CV's, but throttle is more of an issue. My ARB has saved more CV's than I can count, as it allows my wheels to turn slowly, and always at the same speed. I never find myself bouncing, or slamming wheels down.

Honestly dont know how much overall performance you'll really gain with IFS and an LSD simply because of how frequent the wheels lift off the ground rendering the LSD useless.

I run Aussie rear and Truetrac upfront but I'm SAS.. and I will say this setup works much better with a Solid axle and flex keeping the wheels touching the ground.

It's just reality there. goodluck!

I'm running a welded front with 4.88s and 32s. I wheel the piss out of it and have yet to harm a CV. Its all about throttle control.

I say try welding it. See how you like it. Its free, if you dont like it, then take it out and throw in the LSD.

Well he said he isn't into any crazy wheeling and sounds like he mostly trail drives.. Welded front is probably the last thing he wants.

My buddy runs welded, no way in hell I could put up with that.

There may be a 4.56 front diff with a lock-rite in our parts collection. Let me know if you're interested in something like that.

Meh... Auburn's a clutch pack and so is the Celica(?) or Celica Supra(?) LSD that one should be able to find at a j/y pretty cheap...

There's also a guy that makes kits for them it the friction disks are wore out...

But we come full circle again... $ for the clutch kit, $ for the LSD at the j/y... And is this worth doing to a 7.5" IFS axle?

Why not buy a geared LSD and be done with it? No special fluids, and no going back in b/c of worn out friction discs.

Here's the thread I found most helpful when I first started considering this

The *official* 7.5" Supra LSD into a IFS diff thread

. . . and my post on the install

the only problem I had with the install was trying to find shims so I could set carrier bearing preload and backlash -- luckily I was able to mix and match between the Celica Supra carrier shims and the original 4runner shims
