It looks like they used a Canadian-style carburetor for the casting as the back-side of the press-fit slow jet is exposed.

Yeah the area around the mixture adjustment screw being exposed instead if recessed is the only difference I could find in it when I compared the pics with a stock carb pic

Actually, what I should have said is that the throttle plate looks like its from a Canadian carb. I see that they have the California emission's ports on the top air-horn. That would be necessary for me if I were to go that same route.

 

At least someone has a concept of how this forum works.

 

Well my carb finally arrived .I compared it side by see to my old one to look for any differences .at first I thought the linkages on the china carb were On the cheap side.but after looking on the factory carb they both look the same.so i installed it and fired it up.so after reaching normal operating temp I start adjusting it.the mixture adjustment on it only took 4 turns out.my old carb was set at 6 1/2 turns out for it to reach its highest idle and highest vacuum on vac gauge.i will let you guys know how it goes in about a week of driving to see if there's any kinks to work out.

Well its been a week and i have no complaints.Its been in the 20s here in the morning and after 2 pumps of the gas she fires right up.There are no drivablity problems or anything.The only difference in the carb and the oem was the R port for the egr isnt drilled into it and the air flap for the secondary is just spring loaded like a rodchester carb instead of having a linkage to it.It does kick in the secondary alot smoother than the old on did with the linkage.I kinda miss the kick the old one gave when it kicked in it seemed like it was going to do something.lol

How about the fuel draining from the float bowl? Does that happen with this carburetor?

 

There is no fuel drain down on this carb.

 

That is so bizarre.

Many here who rebuilds their own carb yet have this issue, and then there's a carb manufacture who copies the Aisan carb can build one without this issue. Even the one I bought from a supposed reputable carburetor rebuilder has drained out.


I'm suspecting the environment in which we rebuild these carburetors. I was thinking the next time around to put the carburetor and gaskets in an oven on low temperature setting to warm all those parts for a few minutes. Afterwards, then assemble the carburetor. Also I was considering using hex machine bolts to be able to torque down on the gaskets instead of the Philips screw bolts.

 

I know what you mean.i agree hex bolts should allow for much better and even torque

 

Also let us know if you think your mileage improves. I am getting around 15 mpg with this rebuilt carburetor based on calculating miles per tank. I suspect that because of the fuel draining out of the bowl, my miles per tank, which is how I'm calculating MPG, is low because of loosing fuel.

Even though I bought a new Stage 2 engine a couple years back with the new rebuilt carb, I still think I should be getting better MPGs.

 

Ill keep track next Friday I fill up every 2 weeks when I get paid .only prob is all my driving is stop and go all day everyday no highway. So I can only give a city driving mpg

 

Any updates on the Chinese ebay carb? Still happy with it? Hows the mileage running it?
