Anybody have any experience with Calif BAR Smog Referee??
Was having problems with high Nox at 15mph......
old Thread
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-calif-222662/
After all said and done.......It seems my ECM is bad. It's not signaling my VSV to switch.
So I unplugged my VSV. But left the connector on, but not completely plugged in. Keeping the vacuum flowing, and took it to be tested.
Passed with flying colors!!!!!
15mph Test
NOx went from 1247ppm to "5"ppm
25mph Test
NOx went from 676ppm to "86"ppm
All other gases were "0.00"
The only bummer is because I failed 6 previous tests. I was flagged by the Calif smog police. And they won't issue a certificate until I have it tested by the BAR Cal smog referee.
Has anybody had any experience with them. How hard to they check your system out?
Don't have the money to purchase a new/rebuilt ECM before they're going to test it.

They're pretty thorough. They got me for having my catalytic converter welded in upside down because you couldn't see the numbers without a mirror. .
If they'll notice your connector is not plugged in all the way is hit or miss though.

I've dealt with them on my 3.0 to 3.4 conversion. While they were very thorough they were also very helpful in getting things to work out correctly. As long as things comply with the regs they try and work with you. Just my experience anyway.

to my knowledge in your case the ref would be just doing a more through smog check as long as your all stock and you are not throwing a check light and the truck passes the sniffer he probably wont look twice at anything. he is just going to make sure everything is there and hooked up. make an appt. and go see one. you wont likely have any issues. best of luck

Just an update..........Took it to the BAR Calif Smog referee. Left the VSV connector on
but not completely plugged in.
Passed with flying colors.
The only problem was that my radiator decided to spring a leak in the middle of the test.
but wasn't leaking enough to stop the test. Luckily....it was only a year and half old and
still under warranty. Already exchanged it out.
