Question any power steering system tutorials?

I've got a mean leak at the pump and hoses. Anyone tackle this job? A nice writeup?

Some Hose Advice

If you have leaky hoses, an alternative to the Toyota hoses is to take the old hoses to a good hydraulic shop. They can put the old ends on new and better quality hose, clocking the conections to the orginal orientation, for a fraction of the new hose price. I was quoted $275 for the Toyota pressure hose on my power steering, and had a better one made for $85.

Also, use power steering fluid, not ATF. I use Redline or Valvoline synthetic, depending on the vehicle. When you change oil, pump out the power steering reservoir (about 6 ounces) and refill with fresh fluid. This is easier than a disconnect and drain every few years.

WHOA NOW!

Before you get tore a new one for jumping out on that limb, I'll jump out there with ya!

I too "upgraded" to power steering fluid when I rebuilt my pump a couple months ago. As of today I've not had any trouble or noticed any odd effects from doing so. I wasn't prepared to release my findings untill at least another month or two had gone by. But what the hey.

Some (many) folks here claim that it's a cause of leaks and failure to do like us. So don't be too suprised to hear it.
