mine isnt bobbed but you can go pretty far, looks like about down to the frame rails
or you could just cut the back of the bed off, primer the raw cuts and call it good

the one's I've seen take it back to the rear spring mounts on the frame.
as far as how far that is depends on longbed / shortbed.

we will be bopping my friends longbed 18" tommorrow or the day after, then my other friends shortbed will be bobbed as far as possible soon after. We did my other buddies ranger 9" last week, ill show some early pics, we bopped it then also cut the frame down and welded a new crossmember back there.

sorry pics are huge and im far too lazy to resize

I had a longbed and took out a foot....now its a short bed. i got a new bed and did it different. Before i had cut the bottom off for the bumper and thats fine but i changed my armor idea. If you leave it and dont cut it flat like my gray bed you will need to metal shape OR cut a triangle out to bring the bottom up. I metal shaped mine and trimmed off the extra under it.

pics.

heres the new bed minus filler and paint work.

A few tips.
Use weld through primer. The welds will rust quickly. Clean an inch out when you go to weld it. and keep the metal cool I tacked both sides in place on top, Then did the floor. Its a pain but i tacked each raised part then each lower part. Keep checking to make sure the sides line up and throw a tac on the sides every few minutes. The metals thin and on my first one i did both sides and then the floor and wound up hammering it in the center. On the tacoma i did it was the same. I have OCD so keep in mind im always going for the cleanest bed bob or_______ in history so where people say this takes them a few hours it took me a good weekend to do the taco and get the body lines to line up and move them from the part i cut out to the tail. My truck i welded inside and out side to clean up any gaps or wire pieces i had cause im not the best welder in the world. My bed floor is welded solid and the inside is ground down and filled to look perfect once painted.

Heres some more pics.

with the topper on it

Sorry i dont have more detailed pics but i will as i put my build thread together. The truck is going to be as close to new as possible when im done. No rust, SAS, New interior blah blah blah.

That's 11 inches. I probable could have taken a bit more.
Still just a bit left to finish.
