Depending on why they break in is a factor too, for instance if you have a 400$ flatscreen you'll attract some people that can be in and out in less then a minute, he had an alarm, all it did was allow his mom to see them taking off. So really it depends on what you're trying to protect. I think in your case a steering wheel disconnect would be plenty, not too many people would bring they're own wheel to steal one of your trucks. That and an alarm would make you golden.

Agreed! You can have a fancy alarm, club type devices, etc. If you have a well hidden kill switch it would be very hard to take your ride. I take the trunk/gas door release buttons out of Ford vehicles when I'm at the pic a part yard. It's a simple 2 wire momentary switch. Just hide it away somewhere good!

my buddy chuck has a heavily modded Scion tC, and his favorite thing that he did when he built (yes, built) his alarm is he got a PA speaker and mounted it behind the dash...
its got a 3 second delay to the alarm going off... just enough time for someone to slide into the drivers seat before 118db goes off right in their ears...

yea, its loud... it confuses you with the noise... and it'll damn near make you deaf...

he set it off once when i was in it...

not fun...

Compustar is the best security out there. i love mine and it has sensors EVERYWHERE! also, to go along with the fuse in the ECU and the engine immobilizer or "kill switch".

have you checked out http://www.commandocaralarms.com? They have absolutely great stuff as far as i am concerned. I got this kit: http://www.commandocaralarms.com/ite...ProductID=1463 and was able to install it by myself in about 8 hours. As far as theft deterrent goes, this kit includes a shock sensor that is quite effective.

Along the lines of the dude with the TC with the loud ass PA behind the dash. I've heard of people in the UK mounting Smoke machines that fill the interior of the vehicle with smoke. So the thief can't see what they are doing to take any of your stuff. Along the same lines Tear Gas would also work well! Or maybe fill the interior with Pepper Spray - easier to get hold of.

As I have said many times, if you are going to wire in a kill switch somewhere PLEASE INTERUPT THE STARTER CIRCUIT and not the fuel circuit!!!

If some thing happens and you hav a component failure, then the worse that will happen is that your truck wont start the next time. If you have any component failure, then your truck will die going down the road and you will lose any power steering/brakes and possibly make your truck uncontrollable, especially if your wife/girlfriend/kid is driving it.

Just as effective and much safer!!!

The siren inside the cab is also a great idea. When you are trying to quiet any sound is amplified in your head and a siren in the cab will make a thief think that people from miles away can hear it.

I'm with dntsdad on this one. a starter kill switch would be way easier to do too.

I have run a kill switch on the fuel circuit on 3 heavily used Toyota 4x4's, 2 Nissan mini-trucks, and my old RX7, and have never had any problems what-so-ever. Not saying that 1 couldn't arise, but I have yet to have any.

As mentioned...on my previous easy to break in but expensive cars I have put a switch controlling the fuel pump. I won't say where I hid it but it was easy to get to and nobody would find it unless they pulled the entire interior apart. It was cheap, effective and second nature when I get in/out of car to flip the switch. Since I was just interupting the signal to the fuel pump relay, NOT the line in, any cheap switch will do aka low amperage rating is ok.

I ran a simple relay switch along the fuel pump wiring in my Eclipse but I also had it setup so I could connect it around the hidden switch if there was a problem.

If they can't get fuel it can't be driven away;ignition kills sometimes still get defeated.

I used to run both kills, ignition and fuel pump. If some1 want my trucks, they'd need a flat bed. I didn't do the ignition kill in 4runner is due to the alarm.

Even if they get it started, they aren't going to want to drive it.
and the closer you can get it to the genitalia, the better.

Put in a push button start and a master power disconnect in two different locations, like maybe in the locking glove box...

I'll second compustar. I have one of their alarms/autostarts. Aside from a stiff breeze being able to set off one of the sensors it is a great alarm. And I have the benefit that their isn't a dealer for 800 miles so no one has a clue what I have here.

PS that sensor can be disabled from the remote.
