Antifreeze pouring out of overflow hose

We put a new rad on dads 95 4 runner 22re 5 speed. It was airlocked so he got his mechanic to fix that. Now when hes driving he can smell prestone and noticed its wet around the drain hose on the overflow bottle. So today he noticed everytime he shuts it of pretone pours out of the drain hose on the overflow bottle. Anyone know what could be causeing this? He had the bottle filled to the proper mark and also had it empty and either way it pours out. His temp gauge doesnt go up at all.

If the overflow bottle is overflowing you could either have a bad radiator cap, or a leaking head gasket causing too much pressure in the radiator.

He also said the radiator cap is always cold if that means anything. How could he tell if the headgasket is bad? Theres no oil in the coolent or or water in the oil. He was gonna put it in for a timing chain and some other work, but if the headgasket is bad mayby he should have that done too.

I was having this happen to me last spring. It was the head gasket.

Most of the time when I see this happen it's usually the clutch fan. Probably the oil in it thin out or running low.

Is the fan spinning freely or is it still stiff when engine is off? You want it to be stiff. If it's easy to turn then it's the oil but if it's not then it's something more major

Smell the overflow bottle after it has been running, if it smells like exhaust gas than the head gasket is bad. Also, you can watch inside the overflow while it is running and look for little bubbles. If there is exhaust pumping into the cooling system, most times you wont find oil in the coolant or the other way around. Why did you replace the radiator? I have seen radiators get blown out around the hose from bad head gaskets.

Could still be air in there somewhere. Had this happen to me and ended up running the truck with the cap off for about 20 minutes letting it burp itself out while adding coolant as it would burp and the level would drop.
