I've been rocking primered certifit fenders and a hood for almost a year now so I figured it was time to make the whole thing a single color. I didn't do anything about the dents, I wouldn't want to be too afraid to still take it out and wheel it hard.

My first attempt at painting a vehicle and rattle canned at that. Also rattle can clear coat. Doesn't look great but it looks a hell of a lot better than before.
Also did from the body line down in duplicolor bed liner, as well as up the edge of the front and rear fenders and around the front of the hood.

hows that stack sound? i wanted to do something like that with mine but near the cab with a electronic exhaust cut out to switch between my magnaflow and a straight pipe stack in the bed

i dont know if your worried about it or not but i bet you could buff out some of the blotchiness of the clearcoat.

I've had a couple people ask so here's a video.
2.5" from the stock manifold to a hi-flow cat to a magnaflow muffler.

 

You think the blotches would buff out? I might give it a try. Worse comes to worse I buy a few more cans of clear.

How do you wheel 85? I ran a stack because I wheel a lot in mud and deep water. I think if I had a switch to go between the exhaust my muffler/pipe would fill up with mud and water when using the stack. Then probably destroy the flapper device and or exhaust manifold gasket or worse when I switched it back.

I never use canned clear, it's no good. You need a well lit area, and put it on just thick enough to pool, but not run. Hard to describe, but it's why painters all agree clear is the hardest part of painting.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the tread on your tires is facing the wrong way. Are they directional? They look fine in the "before" picture. Might need to rotate them?

 

I flipped them to see how the traction is in stuff other than mud, also rotated them at the same time.

What I found from flipping V direction treads in the mud is that yeah they "dig in" a little better, but it pulls mud towards the center of the tire instead of throwing it out, so you get all the sloppy stuff where your traction used to be. Heard of some people having good results with them flipped for rocks and whatnot, but I don't crawl much. More of a bogger myself

How many rattle cans you go through, not counting the clear?

 

I went through 6 cans of paint and 3 bed liner

 

6 rattle cans? Whoa. How much prep work did ya do? Couple passes with some 200grit sand paper, and vola, start spraying?

 

yeah that's about it, 320 grit and clean up with some solvent

 

dual stacks on a '80 20R 4x4 sounds ing awesome..if i could get a video i would..i have dual 2 1/4" pipe...flowtech header..and dual 3.5" slash cut tips...(yes i know..water will get in them when it rains) its a badass mother F#$@#$ too...sound TOTALLY awesome cruizin the streets at about 20mph..in 2nd gear..then just get on it..kinda scares some people...its got a turbo muffler on it though..so it aint too bad..i cant imagine straight pipe'd stacks...loudest truck i've ever heard that wasnt a drag truck was mine when all it had was a header...loudest truck in the state then..LOL!!!!

 

^ lol you should hear my 12v cummins with it's 4" downpipe, 4" straight pipe (no cat no muffler) without a single bend in it, and 5" tip. I vibrate house windows at an idle.

And if you can possibly imagine how loud that is (you could probably line up 10 yoters with straight pipes to duals at WOT and you'd still hear mine over it), you should hear my buddy's commonrail with it's 5" downpipe, 5" straightpipe y'ed out to two 7" stacks. Dear sweet baby jesus when you hear those twins start spooling up, then he goes WOT, your brain just about leaks out your ears.


But anyways, back on topic, it looks good. Think imma have to go get me some rattle cans

You use the foam block or orbital or just sanded by hand?

 

I used an orbital and some hand sanding to get inside the dents
