Ok I am changing the engine and transmission in my sons 4running and could not leave the crossover alone so this is what I done. I cut the 90 degree fitting on the driver side and turned it down and tied in the the exhaust and blanked of the driver side manifold. Done a smoke test for leaks. Just did not have room on the passenger side and don't want the crossover over hanging down.

I would like to get rid of my crossover, but from your description I have no idea what you did.

Try hosting them on a site like photo bucket, its free and i'm pretty sure they have an app for your phone (if you have a smart phone). Makes it easier than uploading straight to YT.

 

Ok finally got some pictures up have some computer to phone issues. I did not get a picture after welded but will. Welding up the blank off for the drivers side tomorrow and setting the engine in.

from that angle it looks like it will fit. but what is the point of this? the main purpose of the crossover elimination is preventing heat at the #6 cylinder. you have relieved some of the heat, but not a lot. I wish you the best

 

Yes Sir, I installed the engine this afternoon and fits like a glove plans are tranny tomorrow, I will get some pictures then. I may wrap it with the fiberglass tape to cut down on the heat or clamp some thin stainless steel for a heat shield and a new cat converter i have to send it to southern california once she is dialed in.
He is stationed at Fort Irwin so i guess he will not be doing much mud bogging out there. Hehehe.

 

Sure it's not for everyone I wanted to relieve some of the exhaust pressure on number six cylinder and equal out the exhaust pressure. I understand heat is a problem on the 3.0 but that was not my focus.

 

What did you use for that 90? Looks like a steel water fitting, regardless looks pretty interesting, I like your shop also. What car is behind the hoist with the red steelies?

 

It's the 90 that I cut off the crossover and just turned it down. I went with 1 7/8" exhaust pipe over the lower end of the 90 so I could get a better weld and a little better flow.
That's a 67 chevy truck with an LS engine going in it. LOL I guess you want pictures of that too. hehehe

Bone Collector, I just stopped cylinder 6 from fighting with cylinder 1,3 and 5 for exhaust space, I can't see how that can not help some. No not as much as headers would but it's no different than going down on the passenger side except for the heat build up in the engine bay. I have way to much stuff on the passenger side that I don't want heated up. and I saved $600 bucks.

 

It looks good to me. While I too have heard that #6 can get hot due to the crossover, I am pretty sure that it because the crossover feeds into the back of the driver side manifold, not because it is a couple of inches away from the cylinder head. After all, it already has a heat shield on it.

Looks like a good mod to me, if I ever pull my engine, I may be copying you. Let us know how things go once you fire it up.

 

Ah, I love the '67-72 chev/gms; '68 is my favourite as it had the same hood as the 67 but the bigger back windows like the 68's to 72's. I had 4 trucks in that year range over the years, loved every one of them, my only complaint was the sloshing gas tank behind the seat. I'd love to see pics of the 67.

what I like is once it gets some rust on it it wont attract the smog techs attention like headers or under the trans would. I'm not looking forward to smog this yr. Taking bets on getting nailed for a STAR station....

 

Thanks guys i am sure it will help with the longevity of the engine and just looking for a little help in the HP dept. I installed a heat shield on it last night and installed seals in the tranny still hoping to fire it up this weekend.

Anybody have any idea what Cat Converter I should run on this thing to pass smog test in California I have no idea I can't even find a place in south Carolina that can test it.
