Alternator help

I'm changing my alternator and unplugged the wire and unbolted one wire,but I also have one black wire not attached anywhere what is this wire should it be grounded??? Or just tape up?

You got a Cadillac Escalade?

What model? What year?
A problem well-stated is a problem almost solved.
IF first-gen 4Runner with 22RE, black wire ground to engine block.

OK. Then same as first-gen. Just ground it to engine block or to alternator mounting bracket. Make sure you have shiny bare metal contacting shiny bare metal.
