would this alternator work on a 1992 22re tacoma pickup? does anyone know of anyone else that sells a HO alt kit with alt and power wires?

GM CS-144 alternator swap. Also search Big 3 mod.

 

If it has a 22re, it's not a Tacoma. Unless it's some super awesome truck from 17180 years in the future that we've never heard about.

Someone COULD swap a 22re into a tacoma.

Not really sure why you WOULD though...

 

My truck is a 1992 and is badged as a tacoma so that kit should work shouldn't it. I thought the 2.4l engines were all pretty much the same from 1989-1995.

 

I think the previous owner is trolling you if your 92 has Tacoma badges.

However, if the item you're buying looks like the picture, it should fit. I know a lot of times there's an "item may not look exactly as pictured" clause on stuff like that.

@$260-$300 for a 140 amp alternator, I'd buy the Trail Gear GM bracket adapter and run a 12si 1 wire Power Master GM alternator from Summit Racing or JEGS or similar race shop. It's practically sealed, cheaper and no issues with the holes in the stock Toyota alternator case.

Ask me how I know the stock Toyota Alternator Housing sucks.

I have gone through 3 alternators in the past 2 years. First one went because the voltage regulator went out. (Probably because it was the original), the next two went because the bearings in them were shot. Due to the amount of mud/water etc etc this this truck sees on a rather regular basis. Next one that I have to replace is getting replaced with a 12si. The CS-144 is a better unit, but I don't want to deal with switching out the belt pulley to v-groove.

Look at the difference in case styles between a 12si and a Toyota OEM. CS-144 style is very similar to the 12si case.
