in cruisin around the local juckyard, I spotted a couple 1st gen Runners w/Aisin manual hubs; I have ADD on mine. Money pending, I wanna do the swap, and both Runners' front ends looked good, so I don't think these junker's hubs are in bad shape, but...

I saw new Aisins for 500 bones kinda a bit much. what's a reasonable price to negotiate around assuming their decent condition and 17-19 year age? y'know, like what upper price figure (~roundabout) should I keep in mind beyond which is rape? I've heard new Aisins are expensive (I can second that), but are nearly 20 y.o. ones as costly?

Max $50. I'd think you can get em for less than $20. But make sure they are coming off an IFS 1st gen, otherwise they won't work.

I saw those Aisins new for $500! Couldn't believe it.

Woh, less than $20?!?! The going rate is typically $50-75 for a pair of used ones.

On ebay.

A junkyard....in Humboldt.... I'd go in with a crisp $20 and some tools.

How many old VW buses are in that yard?

IIRC I think I spent $75 to $90 a bunch of years ago from TAP. Make sure to be gentle pulling off old hubs. The hub body is soft enough to deform pretty easily when trying to get those nasty little conical washers to pop out.

Just picked mine up at a local yard last saturday $30 bucks (the guy asked me what they were). Sweet score, bring along a compothain hammer or a wood block so as not to mangle the housing. Easy to install, pickup or make some new gaskets too.

man, you guys are so lucky. i have a toyota only yard less than 10 mins from my house(toyota heaven) and i cannot buy anything there because:
1-the guys an ass
2-crazy crazy high prices he wanted 150 per hub!!!!!! used!!!! 300 a set!!!! then later quoted me 500 for a mr2 rear spindle, when they are 435 or so from the dealer new! really sucks having a toyota only yard that has tons of 1-2nd gens, but i cannot go because i just wanna punch that ass. (hes really rude as well, im starting to think he must have been trained at tap recycling ,then moved to texas)
