Question airbox

I was just thinking if you put a cold air system on you 22RE and get rid of the airbox what do you plug into the MAF sensor? Because all the cold air systems I have seen I never seen a plug in mass air sensor that replaces it.

Thanks

Jeff

In 93 Toyota used a AFM, not a MAF. My advice is don't waste your money on a "cold air intake" they do nothing to actually make the air colder. The best way to get colder air is to get it from outside the engine bay. You can do that by routing the intake through the inner fender. Like this:

yeah CAI's tend not to do much as far as getting cold air in goes. If youre looking to put a cone filter on you get an adapter to bolt onto the afm. Is that what youre trying to do? or are you trying to totally replace the air intake tube?

AFM is what I am havin trouble with it is keepin the truck from runnin, I start the truck and if I hold the vale inside the box open a little it stays runnin but if I let it go It dies, Any ideas what might be keeping it from runnin?

I've traded out different ones and the TPI too so I am at A loss now.

surely there is a version of the ISR that we do on the 95.5 - 04 trucks that you can do here, also? I have even see people do our decklpate mod here too, just on the BOTTOM of the airbox...anyway search for ISR, maybe you can use that...

EDIT: ... and now my information is irrelevant, I cant be much help in the problems with your AFM, but I would say bypassing it isnt the way to go around it...but unfortunately, I dont know what would cause your symptoms, especially if you've tried different ones.

Air box?

Ok now that I have totally confused everyoneI'll start over,

I have a 93 toyota that just come up with a hitch in the airbox when you start it up it runs for a few seconds and then dies I figure out it wasn't the TPI or it might be I haven't a clue Yet or it was the AFM I got to playin around with the Vane in the air box and figured out if it was about to dies I pushed on the vane and it opened and it ran ok ....... Why????

I was wonderin if it could be the computer? or the O2 sensor or the AFM
or the TPI?

Thats why I thought it might be that AFM (airbox).

any ideas?

Jeff

You should have changed the subject of the thread.
TPI = TPS?

Pumps do go out.. If they fail completely the truck won't even start. You should be able to hear it run if you listen by the tank and have someone put the key in the ON position.. It should run for a few seconds then stop. You can also check for fuel pressure by removing one of the lines - my guess is at the fuel rail is easiest, probably the cold start injector line.. but be aware it will spill a lot of fuel.

Do you get a "check engine" light?

Yelloyota, There are no holes in the rubber airducting from the MAF to the TB right?, Turn the idle screw open, Sounds like idle is way to low.

the stock setting is turning the screw all the way in to the right, and then backing it out 4.5 turns i think...if it is not that, i would replace the AFM
