AFM retarded
yes... i did it. i know better. but today has just been one of those days, and like a retard i took off those two screws and blamm-o there goes the next 2 hours soldering little foil thingys back together. that was fun!! at least i know i am not the only one.
The good news is that to my surprise it (so far) is working like a champ!!
Has anyone who has had to solder the connections back together ever had a problem with it maybe coming apart again or anything? my soldering skills are not the best by anymeans, but the connections were holding good from what i could tell.

I had this problem and had to solder the tips on my old supra, after i got it fixed and in working order, i drove it around for a while, and then just to make sure that everything was in place, I went back and did another solder job on it, Thats just how i did it, cause i was afraid of it coming apart.
hope all goes well

I rebuilt my AFM. But I didn't pull the wires off be accident. I purposely unsoldered them, removed the electronics and sandblasted the case clean inside and out. Then put new bearings in it. Worked and looked like new.

Nope. took about an hour. The bearings had rust on them, so the vane wasn't moving smoothly. It worked perfectly after the rebuild . Plus I put stainless steel bearings in it so it wouldn't rust again.

I broke mine by accident and re-soldered it. It lasted a few months, then began acting up intermittently. I purchased a rebuilt part from NAPA for $180, and it has been working correctly for several years.

when you say it was "acting up" what exactly did it do? I want to know so i can watch for this on my truck if it happens.

It started running rough and would not accelerate well. It was dangerous to get out in traffic. Once I got up to 40 mph or so, I guess the air flow pushing the flap open helped, because it smoothed out. It usually occurred from dead stop or when driving "in town" conditions.
It gave a CEL which I pulled 2 codes from. I can't remember what the codes were.
You will definitely know if it acts like mine did. If you soldered it, it may hold and continue working fine. I am not the best at soldering tiny wires, so I bought the NAPA part.
