Adjusted valves, now ticks louder?
My truck is a '91 with a 22re. I just finished adjusting my valves, and my truck runs a lot stronger, but the valve ticks at idle have gotten louder as well. Is this normal? I thought that adjusting valves made them quieter...
Also, I noticed that the passenger side idler arm has come into contact with my frame, not badly, but still. I've never noticed this before. Anybody know the cause of this?

as far as the valves, you've got to make sure that you havent overtightened the valve cover, as it will distort the rocker arm assembly and make the motor tick like crazy.. i know from experience.

not sure of the torque spec, but its basically just enough to keep it from leaking. I had my little rubber grommets wear out which caused it to either leak or be too tight. I can't remember how much the new grommets were, but it was under $5.

at the part store it was cheaper if you got the grommets & gasket together (like $1 more than just the grommets) so if you're gasket is looking shady you might as well jump on one of those too.
Mine was actually cut in a couple of places, and the PO just decided to tuck it back in, and hope it didnt leak too much...
