acceleration problem

how bad can a tps slow down acceleration. after i had my 95 3.0 smogged it has accelerated really slow and the smog tech said my tps was gong bad but im not sure it is i need to test it but if its not the tps what could it be? the truck shifts fine its kinda stuck from 15mph to 40mph thats where its hesitant. any help would be appreciated.

Check your timing if you haven't already...

If the TPS is bad, the timing will not advance like it should. Someone probably advanced your timing to compensate for the bad TPS. When you get a smog check, the timing needs to be set to spec, so the tech probably set it where it is suppose to be. This is why it is slower after the smog check. It will be best to get a new TPS and leave the timing alone as it is now set properly. I would check the TPS before buying a new one to make sure that is the problem.
