Accelerate problem

Cold start, when I shift it to D the truck will not rev to 3k's rpm,it can only rev to 2k rpm but if I hit it hard it might rev to 2.5k rpm, but if I shift it to neutral and it can rev the engine upto 3.5k's rpm so what is causing this problem? I was thinking the transmission but I think it can also be the engine because I think ECM controling the shifting so anyone know what is causing it pls chem in this, thanks in advance...

When it is warm it will totally keep on diong the same symtom until I shut it down and restart it then it will drive normally when it is already warm. It throw a cel code 71 which I have done the EGR trick using the 1k ohm and have plug the valve, it does make the truck idle and run better with it and no more code 71, that the only cel I got. But again when it is on P and N it rev high as I can get it to go so when I restart it then its all back to normal driving. Maintenence I have done are, NGK spark plug wire, ngk spark plugs, nology coil, cap dist., rotor.

Things that I done and started the problem are changing transmission fluid to DEX III, was using DEX II before which is good on cold running from what I heard so after changing it to DEX III which they said supercede DEX II, and I have change the o-ring from the transfer case that I think the speed-o-meter connect to it because it was leaking out from it so it all started when I done these changes. The tranny is my first thing that I could think of that is causing this sluggish run but if anyone know this symtom is from other parts pls chem in on this so I don't have to fix or take it to the shop and worry that it is not the problem but if I have to I'll fix it then thats when the 5 speed will be replace it by next spring. I only have this truck to go work and go around so it is not running as it suppose too. Thanks!.
