Sounds like BS to me. He shows no evidence of his claims. Where do you get this "5 speed trans with Overdrive in every gear" and have it mate to a Kubota tractor engine. $95 bucks, what a deal.............GM will be knocking on his door, act NOW!!

If you do decide to go the alternative fuel route then I recommend biodiesel. The only issue I had when making that stuff was the initial 40 gallons of soap that we made trying to get the titration corrected. Of course that soap went a long way towards cleaning the driveway and sidewalks.

If you've got the ability to convert one to diesel, can afford the bio set up, can get the racing fuel and red devil lye and have a place to put it then go for it. The local McDonalds here let us have all the cooking oil they used every week and our plan was to drop a diesel into my friends Jeep (I already had a diesel powered Scout) and make our own fuel. We also had a couple guys at work that told us they'd make a "contribution" of 2$ a gallon for bio diesel.

The entire thing fell through when I sold the scout.........

Good luck!

yeah I have no idea what to do. Everything is going to cost more money than I have right now anyway, so I may just have to deal with it for the time being. Who knows, maybe I'll convert it to electric later on.

Yeah a diesel powered rig running on bio is a great way to go if you already have the motor and bio set up. If not then it's a pretty good sized investment just to get started. You won't make your money back for a long time.... if ever, unless you can make enough to sell to others. With diesel at 4$ a gallon here it would be great to make it for 47 cents and sell it for 2$ a gallon. My reasoning was that I already had the diesel powered rig, and getting 30+ mpg, and wanted something cleaner burning. I also liked the fact that I'd be making my own fuel and doing a little more for the planet. (no I'm not a tree hugger but I liked the fact that the bio puts out almost zero emissions). The other great thing is that bio will clean out the fuel system and make it even more efficient. That and it smells like french fries at the tail pipe.

It appears that the newer propane solutions claim slightly more HP and 20% lower fuel economy. Propane currently runs about $2.50/gal. Conversion kit is about $1000 with tank. YIKES

An old penny pinching diesel might be the trick, or a GEO Metro... Old diesel Volkswagens would be my choice, like a Rabbit pickup.... 45 mpg and a pickup to boot!

BICYCLE is my commute of choice! When we're all in the same boat, and the dangerous idiots are off the main roads, I'll be the first out there to commute on my bike! That's not gonna happen anytime soon though, people will just absorb the cost into their budgets. We're almost to $4 already.
Solution: Drive a little less, eat more Taco Bell, get a raise.

Most Schwans Home sales trucks are propane powered. The old IMPCO vapor systems did suck, low power and lots of problems. The new Bi-phase liquid injection is much better in the power and economy department but still very unreliable. If you had the know how to work on it yourself and access to non taxed LP (not legal) it would work out ok.

Yeah if I had a diesel already it would be great, but since I don't, I would probably have to save up a bunch of money first, then sell both my DD and my new 85 4runner which I will never do! I like both of them too much just to sell them like that. With my jobsite only a mile and a half away, my best investment for saving fuel would be to buy a bike, then I could just drive my truck when I really need to, like for far distances. Hmmm...I may just have to do that... I may even be able to talk my boss into a raise for when school lets out because now I'm getting paid less than minimum wage because of the youth apprenticeship program. He doesn't even have to pay me if he doesn't want to.

Speaking of my boss...I asked him about the propane injection (I work at an engine machine shop) and he said that I would have to drive a whole lot for me to save gas and have the conversion pay for itself. He also said that there isn't really a place around here that sells propane, and that propane would cause more problems than it would solve because it burns too hot. So that being said, either bio diesel or riding a bike looks to be my only fuel saving options right now, and since I don't have a diesel vehicle, I may just have to ride a bike!

Not sure if you mean the pedal kind or one with a motor. I have a 91 Nighthawk 750 that gets 53mpg in town. That one is about to become my DD again.
