95 Limited for first car?

Hey, I am new to japanese imports and SUV's. I am looking to buy my first car and I saw this dark 95 Limited Edition 4Runner. Nice leather interior, oak wood sunroof etc. The engine has 250K Miles on it but when i popped the hood it was unbelievably clean almost brand new seems like the engine parts where replaced recently. The guy is asking 5500$ CDN ( I live in Calgary Canada (everything is expensive here )) and I checked a few newspaper ads and people are asking for 10k + to similar specs but with a little bet less mileage. I keep reading about head gaskets blowing off etc, can someone collaborate on this for me? Open to suggestions. Also would it be a good idea to buy the car and rebuild the engine or what? The frame/shape of the car is in exellent condition.

3.0 v6 bad about burning valves & blowing head gaskets.other than that its a good engine(my opinion).there is a recall for the head gaskets.i would guess for Canadian also.call your local dealer with the VIN they can tell ya if is been done.also reacll on center steering relay rod.i just finished a rebuild on one with 303k miles.so if its been taken care of i don't think i'd be afraid of 250k

I have a 4runner, 95, and i think its a great car! Reliable and nice to drive. Off course, 150hp isent facinating but its a great car on the trails or cruising around in. Ive got 145k miles on mine and a have had no bigger problems so far. Only thing i have done in 5 years, exept for oil etc, is replacing some breaklines. I think its time to replace Hg soon (have been loosing some coolant). Is there any way to prevent damage to the valves? Like headers or something? Are there any signs for bad valves?
Thanks

Buy it. Thats a steal deal. Here in California, Limited 95 Runners go for around $6500 U.S. I think thats like $8000 canadian, I think. And don't worry about the head gasket. The problem was WAY over stated. I have a 1994 3.0, and have never had any problems with it, other than the fact that it gets lousy mileage( 15 MPG). Maybe it'll come back up though. Buy the runner, you'll be glad you did.
