95 4runner 3.0 V6 heater core leak question

I have searched and found no definitive answer so forgive me if I missed it somewhere. Think I have proved it is the core leaking because I have bypassed it and the leak stopped. My question is if the core is leaking does it leak to the engine compartment or into the cab? My leak was in the engine compartment but I have never had a core leak to the outside it has always leaked into the floor. Just want to make sure before I rip the dash out that it isn't possibly something else. Thanks for any advice.

One way to be sure is to reconnect the core and use a coolant system pressure tester. Pressurize the system to what is says on your radiator cap, and start inspecting to find the exact leak area. It could be a leak onto the exhaust crossover at the back of the engine, and it will burn off when hot.

I realized the core was still full of antifreeze so I decided to connect it back and check for leaks again. Been driving it for 3 days and no leaks. Guess it was a hose leaking at a connection, can't believe I couldn't find it before.
