'95 3.0 4WD auto tranny leak under load

I always seem to get the odd problems. My 1995 4Runner 3.0 4WD auto trans seems to be leaking but only under load, not sitting at idle, in park or neutral, or with engine off. Was on I40 doing 70mph when the trans temp light came on, pulled over and the tranny pan aft of the bell housing was wet and dripping, no oil registered on the dip stick. Filled it up, drove about 30 miles trying to limp home and tranny temp light came back on....same thing, refilled and drove the last 5 miles home. Cleaned off all the oil and idled the motor in neutral for 10 or 15 minutes but no leaks, parked in the garage for a couple hours......nothing, trans is still full from what I added prior to that last 5 miles. Funny thing was the engine was also 3 1/2 to 4 qts low but there haven't been any leaks and I'm not burning it. Any ideas? Possible for a input shaft seal to only leak under load?

thanks

Update

Drove it a few miles to Braums to satisfy my ice cream itch, 35 - 40 mph, no OD, no leaks.....not a drop. Leaning towards the filter.

Very late update but replacing the filter fixed my problem. Not really a filter so much as a screen and didn't look dirty at all but the problem is solved.
