94 PU- Blinker wont stay on

Hi, I recently got my 1994 Toyota Pickup and it seems that something might be wrong with the blinker. So I will click the arm either up or down for which ever direction I am turning, I do this about 100 feet (i have tried at other distances) from the time of my turn. Then when I turn the wheel not even a 1/4 of a turn it just clicks off. I cant seem to get it to stay on unless I hold it down while I turn the wheel. Does anyone know why this may be? Any help would be greatly appricated.

Thanks, Ryan

The plastic turn signal cam being worn out can cause the blinker to either switch off, unexpectedly, or remain on after the wheel is straightened and it should return.

Is it reasonably possible for one to replace this?

The part should be cheap, and you should be able to do it yourself. The worst part will be pulling the steering wheel (if it's necessary, I've never changed one on a Toyota)

I have pulled a wheel on a Toy, and it's really not any more difficult that any other vehicle. Getting the center nut off is a little tough, but once you do, both wheels I've pulled came off by hand... Granted I live in AZ, which may make it easier...
