93 toy 4x4 GRINDING HUMMM help.

OK. Just got a 93 pickup 4x4. When driving I get a loud grinding hum out of nowhere it seems. it stays with the momentum as far as volume. when I come to a complete stop it stops. Clutch in or out changes nothing. seems like when i give the wheel a quick twist it stops but it could be my imagination. doesnt matter what gear im in. just starts randomly about every 1/2 mile. sounds like its coming from the front drivers side.

Tried to be as descriptive as possible cause I cant pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for any help!

Check wheel bearings.

Grabbing the wheels at 12:00 and 6:00 with the wheel off the ground and shake.

If it is loose at 12 and 6 then replace wheel bearings.

There should be no play.

If there is no play, with the wheel off the ground grab hold of the Steering knucle and spin the tire. If you feel a "roughness" in your hand from the steering knucle the wheel bearing is the culprit.

Def sounds like wheel bearings, i think kiro is right. The intermittent noise sounds like the bearings, when your stopped, your axle isn't spinning, hence, no noise, when you start driving, as your axle spins through the bearing, it starts that "hum" because your bearing is possibly shot moving in the race?, getting "wallowed out". I have the same problem on the wifes cherokee, and if ignored, that hum will eventually turn into nasty grinding, and a very unsafe vehicle to be driving.
