93 3vze rpm problems

At start up idle will fluctuate between 1500 and 2000. It seems to generally resolve as it warms up.

Also, car sputters when trying to maintain a low speed cruise (25 mph) sputtering resolves with acceleration.

my thoughts are possible tps issue. Possible ignition timing issue.. really havent started to di into this, but I'd love some advice on troubleshooting this.

Thanks!

Sounds like you've got a decent concept of how/where to start.

Have you checked for any codes being thrown? Remember to clear any old codes first. I usually pull the negative lead off the battery for a minute or so to clear old, stored codes that no longer apply. Well worth checking, as they can give an indication of where to look. Which system(s) to check on.

Good luck!

When was the last tuneup? Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, etc. Worthwhile checking the plugs at least to see how it's running. Mine did this when it was missing on a cylinder, as the RPM increased it seemed to go away but it was just less noticeable to detect at higher RPM.

Timing light would be your friend too, you can throw a light on it at idle and see if the timing is jumping around. Could indicatte a few things but usually either an ignition system problem or possibly the timing belt being super worn.

Goodluck!

Just tuned it up. New cap and rotor as well as plugs and wires. Same issue. I'm unfamiliar with a timing light. I'll have to look into that.
