I like the way the 95 or so 4 runner headlights and grilles look as opposed to what I have now. What all is involved in this conversion? Are headlights and a grille from a 4 runner all I need? I have searched and someone said this is documented somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

my buddy did a 94/95 grill conversion. iirc all you have to do is get the new gril and light and they bolt right up.


edit... just got off the phone with him. he said all you need to do is get the gril, headlighs, headlight plug wires wiht enough wire to splice into your stock wireing harness, and the corner lights from a junk yard. everything should be just bolt up.

Cool.. Nice to know it will work.. So, if the headlights aren't the best, are there any options? Are they sealed beam or housings? I just checked autozone and they list the same part numbers as the sealed beam headlights I have now. Doesn't seem like that could be right though, the 4 runner ones look slanted on one side.

The composite style (4runner) headlights will NOT work on the truck front end, without modifying it. Trucks use H6054 sealed beam square headlights. In order for this mod to work, you have to either mod mounts for the composite style lights, or cut/weld on the 4runner front core support section.

THIS is what you have in your truck. Notice the HUGE mounting differences:




The front core support on the trucks are not setup to bolt the 4Runner lights to. They didn't even start Composite headlights in the Trucks until 1997 (tacomas) Except in T-100's. those had composite too, but they were very large.

Tofer: What your buddy did was only the grille/sidelight conversion. He didn't do the headlights. The grilles changed in 92, and the 92+ is a cleaner looking grille. Since all those 89-95 style trucks used square H6054 headlights, the whole front end could be interchanged, as long as you matched the outer lights with the grille.

and if you have a wal-mart or something get a set of h4 bulbs ether GE night hawks or Sylvania sliver stars then get a headlight harness from here Clicky

So will my headlights I have now work with the 4 runner grille\sidemarker lights? Or did Tofer's friend switch the grille and stuff from a 92+ truck into his truck and NOT a 4 runner grille? I would just assume keep my lights if they will work with the 4 runner grille. Might look kinda weird not having the slant on the inside though.

He used a 92+ TRUCK grille, not a 4runner grille. The 4Runner grille will NOT work with the truck headlights.

And as Elton suggested, get the H4 Conversion lights. Great looks and even better lighting.

my buddy said he did a 92+ 4runner grill / headlight conversion onto a pickup...... i never saw the truck before he sold it, but he said he did it.

well, then he had to modify the core support or figure out some other way to mount the headlights, becuase there are no provisions on the truck core support to mount the 4Runner headlights.

4Runner headlights certainly look cool but think of this. They are over twice the surface area therefore more than twice as likely to take an impact and get broken. Stock headlights very cheap/ 4Runner headlights very expensive.

How much do you want to spend on cool?

Between this one and all my other vehicles I spend WAY too much.. LOL This truck doesn't see that much off roading anyway. I just use it for daily driving on the highway and the occasional non-overnight hunting trip.. I have a lifted F250 Superduty that takes care of the offroad\hauling bunches of stuff tasks for me. I'm just looking to set this yoti up purdy and drive it alot to get good gas mileage (more money for parts!!) and keep some miles off my big truck.

The 4runner front should bolt up. You will need the grill, headlights, corners, and front fenders. Everything is a bolt up affair except for the headlight wiring. this is from the research that I have been doing.

your research is incorrect then. The truck core supports are NOT CUT FOR 4RUNNER HEADLIGHTS!!

Im not sure how much more clearly I can state this. Without modifying the core support to accept the headlights, you cannot simply bolt the headlights up. I wish I could show you the core support differences, but there just isn't any pics online for it.

My advice: Dont follow "should" and "I think"

I KNOW because I take these rigs apart every day! and have been doing so for over 5 years. I know how the front of a truck and 4Runer differ.

Can anyone chime in and back me up here? Im sure someone out there has to have a 2nd Gen 4Runner and a 89-95 Truck too.
