92 3VZE Head gasket blown immediately after install.

Hey look, another post about the head gasket problem.
My 4 Runner has 208k miles on it with the famous gasket problem. So no problem, I tore it down, had the heads machined and put on brand new gaskets, head bolts, e.t.c.
I finally started it up this morning and while setting the timing I heard a little pop, and then out of the exhaust came the normal plume of white smoke consistent with a blown head gasket. I thought maybe there was some residual coolant, but when I played with the throttle a bit there then shot out a plume of blue oil burning smoke before back to white coolant smoke.
Obviously I did something wrong here. I followed the service manual directions for the head bolts. I really don't want to pull the heads off again, but maybe that's the only way. My dad recommends re doing the head bolts but I think if I'm going to go that far I need to put on a new gasket or something.
Has anybody else out here blown a head gasket immediately after installing it??
