91 Toyota Pickup

91 Toyota Pickup
I have just purchased a 91 Toyota pickup 4cyl 22re motor and 4x4. The ignition cylinder was locked in the lock position so I drilled the little pin on the bottom to release it, I can turn the thing in the very back with a pair of pliers and engage the starter.
I have already checked timing, fuel, spark. There all there and all seem to be right.
When it comes to trying to start the truck it acts like it wants to fire, just however will not start. Hopefully later this evening when I get off work I plan to check the ignition control module and see if it is within spec.
Would the ignition cylinder missing cause it to not start? I'm stumped at this point and don't have the money to just throw at it endlessly right now.

*******UPDATE*****
Changed spark plugs and wires. Fired alot better than before but then backfired through the intake. Guessing it might be out of time, about to re-check the timing. I was told it was in time but, question is, is it possible that the timing chain slipped after 2000 miles of driving and then sitting for a year, is it possible that when I rolled it over for the first time it added extra strain since everything hasn't circulated that may have caused it to skip. Thanks for any input guys I'm new to the Toyota world.
