91 Toyota 4runner 4x4 problem

Hey !
I'm new to the forum and I need help. So here's my problem: The 4x4 won't work on my 91 toyota 4runner, manual transmission. I lock it in 4L or 4H position but it stays on 2x4. I hear a click in the dash for the 4x4 light, but no light either. What could be the problem ?

Thanks !

Manual hubs or auto hubs?

He has ADD, not auto hubs.

Sounds like the bulb is just burned out. Have you tried jacking the truck up, and verifying that it is indeed not going into 4wd?

Well since you are hearing a click in the dash, we will assume the wire coming off of your T-case is good. Look for a wire underneath on your transfercase, make sure its intact.

Next on the list is to take a look underneath at your front housing. Look for the Auto Differential Disconnect...( wires and hoses and stuff ). Make sure the vacuum lines ( hoses ) and connected to it along with the electrical connector. Look for crappy looking lines etc.

I'm sure others will post up on more things to check.

Drive around in a tight circle in a parking lot. Try to engage 4wd with the lever. Try to drive the same tight circle with the shifter in 4H or 4L. If it feels weird (you'll know) then its just the bulb has burned out.

Hey Matt16 ! I don't know if you mean the 4x4 light in the dash by "bulb" (I'm french, lol) But if so, it's really the 4x4 that doesn't engage, I've check if the front axel was powered, and it's not, so I'm still on 2x4 with the lever locked in 4x4 position. It's only for precision, in case I misunderstood something. Thanks !

i had this same prob a while back, and ya know whats funny it was a burnt fuse that kept my truck from engaging 4x, i know it seems odd, but is your blower working? as in air conditioner/ heater
