Im looking at a 91 4Runner with a 3.0 3VZE V6 engine (with 100k on it) that had its head gaskets replaced around 6-7k miles ago...how long can I expect the new head gaskets to last since replacement?

Professionally done HG replacement using OEM or equivalent parts... could be good for 100,000 miles or more.

DIY done HG replacement done with mystery parts... could be good for 7 miles or more.

The 3.0 has some flaws, but generally speaking if the HG is done correctly you'll have strong reliability for many miles.

 

There is no way to predict this. There are too many variables affecting engine longevity.

DIY with a decent gasket set and reasonable care could last as long as any other.

It's more of a find out who did the job and see if you're comfortable with what you discover.

The best conceivable install by an experienced tech could fail in 1000 miles if there's a blocked coolant passage, warped head, crack somewhere, etc etc.

Drive it, see if it tries to get hot. If not, and everything else seems fine, then it will likely go for a long time.

True... DIY isn't necessarily bad or good. DCS has stated it in a much better way than I.
