90 pickup 3.0 cruise control issue.

When I first got my truck the cruise would work fine if I didnt turn my blinker on. When I did it kept the cruise light on solid but it would act like I hit the clutch or brake and shut it off. I changed all my lights to led and now cruise dont work at all. The cruise light comes on and stays on but it wont hold the speed. Maybe its just a coincidence but I would like to fix this and keep my led bulbs. I have done some reading and alot of the people that are having cruise control problems the cruise light wont come on at all or it flashes on and off. Not trying to go into debt but would like to get it fixed.

Why would you use a turn signal while on cruise? Oh, okay, while passing. Never mind.

I doubt the LEDs have anything to do with cruise. I believe your year has the diagnostic system, so start there.

Run the crusie computer through the diagnostics, might show something. You changed all the bulbs including the cluster telltale/indicator lamps, if so simple fix is to put an incandescent bulb back in the cruise indicator and see if it goes back to "normal".

How do you run the diagnostic on cruise control? I was checking it out last night to see if there was anything unplugged or broke and I didn't see anything but I tried it after that and it worked but still shutting down when I turn the blinker on.

Stepping on the brake is supposed to shut off the cruise control. You might confirm that you don't have a short so that the blinker is also activating the stop lamp.

Sounds to me like you have an open ground wire in the steering column wiring. When that happens, circuits get their "ground" from the next best thing, which is often a light bulb. An incandescent bulb can easily carry enough current to power up the cruise electronics without lighting up itself. Of course, when something else needs that bulb for its real function, such as the turn signals, the "ground" for the cruise system temporarily disappears and it shuts down. Plus, the LED's don't take enough current to make things work at all.

You'll need a schematic of the steering column wiring and some time with a mulitmeter.
