90 4Runner

Hello all, this is my first question here on the boards. I have a 1990 toyota 4 runner v6. I have trouble starting the car. I think it has gone through a few distributor caps and rotors now. Three to be exact. I keep the old ones in the back in case the car does not start. I then replace it with another one (cap and rotors) and viola it starts right up. Any ideas what the problem could be. That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

You should pull the codes and see what you get. Might give you something to go on.

I had a similiar problem, and the code I received mentioned something about bad signal or no signal from distributor.

My issue turned out to be the plug from the dist to the wiring harness. I am wondering if when you replace the cap and rotor and the problem goes away if you are bumping this plug or even the wire coming from the ignitor.

It seems very odd that a new cap and rotor is truly a reflection of the problem. I'd double check your connections and plugs next time it happens and see if that makes the vehicle start okay.

something to do with the connections, maybe bad wires or something, since it changes every time you change a cap (more specifically every time you unplug and plug a cap)
