Have you tried removing the plate that is at the passanger side wheel well, Makes things alot easier.

Junkers, it's either a 3.slow thing or he's talking about the hard plastic gap cover thingy

Oh thank God. I fought and fought to get the damn battery cable hooked back up since there wasn't any room for my little arms in there. At one point I thought about cuttting in an access hole just to make it easier.

Easiest way i have found to remove the starter is to remove the 2 12mm holding on the clutch slave cylinder (this allows the setup to move) then remove the two 14mm starter bolts with a long extension. Long enough to be in front of the diff. Makes it 200x easier.

I removed the charcoal canister and took off my jacket and was just able squeeze my arm to reach the top bolt (actually, its a stud and nut) with a box wrench. I did scratch my arm to on the fuel line brackets. For the bottom bolt I used a 10" extension and turned it through the access panel.

You're probably going to need a breaker bar to break the nut and bolt that hold the starter to the bellhousing loose. I slipped a pipe over the socket wrench.
