89' Tps

I'm trying to adjust my TPS and it's not going good. Toyota says they changed in 03-89 mine is an 04-89 and both the part numbers on the 4crawler article don't match either one. Has anyone set one on an 89', and if so what ohm setting did you use on the VTA-E2 470-6100 seems like a big gap. Oh yeah it's a 22re.

They recently changed the part number for the newer one (maybe both, i don't know), I just bought mine a month ago, and the number is: 89452 20050. I have a 04 89 truck as well.

According to Toyota the sensors changed in 03-89 this is verified by every parts house in my area. This motor is a stroker but doesn't have radical cam in it. I got it to atleast run after the throttle body swap but the idle is way up and it misses worse then it did before I swapped the body and the sensor. The part number that Toyota gave is 89452-14050 after they got my VIN. The one on there before was 89452-28030. When I pull the harness off the TPS it still misses but the idle is up and not so bad.

That's odd about the numbers there. Maybe yours uses the pre and 03-89 version. Mine uses the after 3-89, so my number wont be teh one for yours

The toyota guy told me the TPS that came off my truck was wrong and I called two other dealerships one in Mobile, AL and one in Panama City, FL and they said the same thing, but none had TPS in stock. I started calling parts houses and the first thing they ask when they got to the correct screen was "is this an 03-89" sir? It is an 04-89 but now things aren't right, it will run after the TB sensor swap (rough) and smells like raw fuel. When you throw the jumper in T and E1 the idle goes down but the miss is so bad you can't set anything. Oh yeah the code is all normal.

THe part number I gave you, if this is of any use, is on the TPS on my truck, which uses the 04-89, see if you can find one of those. I got mine from O'reily's but it is factory denso. The local TOyota place in KS had them for 1 dollar cheaper, but not open on sunday.

For those of you that don't know I built this motor after LC engineerings 2.6 stroker motor. It is bored .080 over with the forged pistons, oversized valves, EFI performer cam, LC header, big bore throttle body, and K/n airfilter. When I put the motor in I left the stock TB and sensor on it for cam break in. The motor ran fine idle pretty high but good. I noticed an intermittent miss just a little poof like a valve was tight (checked them) so when I shorted T and E1 to set the idle speed and timing nothing happened. I had a code 51. I decided to change the TPS because I needed to swap the TB anyway. I posted this here, on Pirate, and wildyoats. Got some good replies from Pirate untill the normal flaming started. Got no replies here untill I labeled it 89' TPS (my fault) and nothing from wildyoats. I took a week off to get the motor in and work out the bugs but time is up. If someone can think of something I will try it but like I said I'm just sick.

Got it fixed, (brand new) throttlbody gasket was leaking. Replaced it set timing all is good. I think timing needs to be advanced some kinda sluggish midrange but atleast it'll run besides in safe mode.

I had a buddy from Ford come buy and he found it with the carb cleaner, I felt like an IDIOT, all this work and torque specs and a freakin gasket is my downfall. Anyway I've got to get my timing right to make this thing rock. Also when i was trying to get my aux air valve off my old throttlebody some ahole put red locktite on the screws. Since I couldn't put a torch on the screws, I was stuck. This guy showed me a new trick he took my soldering iron and held it on the head of the screws while we drank some beers and bam they came right out. He said they use blue locktite on alot of things and that's how they get it undone.
