89 4Runner question
I'm looking to buy an 89 Runner with 22re, 5sp. man. I'm just wondering what kind of milage I can expect to get and will it tow my 19.5' crownline boat. I don't need it to tow it up a mountain, just a few miles down the road to the boat ramp.
anything else I should know about it before buying it?
Thanks.

I get around 20 average mpg (combined city / highway) with my 88. you should be within 15% of that, so I'd expect between 17-25 depending on tire size, engine condition, etc.
depends on how heavy the boat / trailer are, but in general should not be a problem. you'll want to invest in, if it doesn't have it, a frame mounted class III or IV hitch assembly. do not use the stock rear bumper for towing. you shouldn't need a load-distributing hitch assembly with the boat trailer since they're pretty well balanced. if the trailer has brakes (which it should) you may need a brake controller in the truck if the trailer brakes are electric. between the hitch and brake controller, expect about 300-400 cost, installed.
and if the truck's getting in the water, be prepared to change the rear gear oil frequently, or relocate the breather up above the waterline.
